To the user who has recently added the Norway links, are you by any chance one of the guys at Tysfjord? I was there in November 2002 for a few fantastic days of Orca-watching... do you have contact with George McCallum... it would fantastic if he could be persuaded to release a photo or two under the GFDL so that Wikipedia could use them. Yes, I know George, but I think it is highly unlikely that he would release any images under the GFDL as he makes his living from his images.( Try emailing him to ask ) Yup, Tysfjord is well worth a visit, even though the price of beer is horrific ;O)
- Yes, I know, I bought several from him! Norca must have built up tens of thousands of images by now and I wondered if we would be scratching each others backs if one, albeit reduced quality, was released, as the licence requires a link back to the original creator (in this case to his website).. thus the overall effect ought to be positive rather negative for him in terms of sales and exposure... but as you say I should just email him! Alternatively I could try and take a still of some video I took... much lower quality... but it does a clip of three Orca spyhopping at once which was our highlight... dunno why I didn't think of that before! Regarding the GDFL, I believe the key stumbling block for any professional photographer is " The purpose of this License is to make a manual, textbook, or other functional and useful document "free" in the sense of freedom: to assure everyone the effective freedom to copy and redistribute it, with or without modifying it, either commercially or noncommercially"
commercially is the problem there ;O( Mention the words "Royalty free" to most professional photographers and watch the look of horror ;op
Regarding NORCA, same thing, email them and ask ! they can only say yes or no ;O)
- I've added a couple of mine own for the time being. I guess the "low res version is advert" tack is worth a try. I'll let you know. Pete/Pcb21 (talk)
