I question if its accurate to say Poitier was a 'major star' during the Golden Age of Hollywood (which would be the 30s to the 50s). Not really. He was definitely a major star in 1958 with The Defiant Ones but primarily his major status era was the 1960s onwards. 2607:FEA8:5CA1:8F40:FC88:61B9:29F9:AF4E (talk) 20:33, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Unsure how to reply to this feed so I’m just going to have to edit and hope you don’t mind reading it like this — The American Film Institute recognise Poitier as as of the Top 25 Actors of Classical Hollywood Cinema (aka. Golden Age of Hollywood) so it would be completely wrong to discount this. The same stands for Sophia Loren. She is now the only remaining living person on the list of 50 stars — see here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI%27s_100_Years...100_Stars — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradonwiki (talk • contribs) 14:59, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
His middle initial is L. It doesn't show on his birth record but it appears on one of the residency records he's featured in. I can't find anywhere what it stands for. Anybody have an idea where we could find this? --Jkaharper (talk) 17:52, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I should also remark that his ISNI entry simply lists "Sidney" as his forename and "Poitier" as his surname. No middle initial. No other name, too. MarcelDupré1886 (talk) 22:22, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sidney Poitier Black and White: Sidney Poitier's Emergence in the 1960s as a Black Icon shows up only twice on worldcat worldcat.org, and does not seem to have any scholarly reviews or mentions on Google Scholar. Given that it seems to be mostly an e-book, it is quite possible that it punches above its apparent weight, but I don’t see any evidence of that.
