[edit]Actually I quite liked the previous version. Maybe it should be immortalized in the jokes page. DJ Clayworth 16:30, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Points for revision
[edit]- Pickthall travelled across the plains and coastyards of many Eastern countries, forming a great reputation as one of the foremost Middle-Eastern scholars of his time. A strong and steadfast advocate of the Ottoman Empire,
A few points could/should be revised.
- "coastyards"??
- Easter countries--which precisely? Is "Eastern" NPOV?
- advocate of the Ottoman Empire--are people typically described as being advocates of an empire/state or as an "advocate for Western support of the Ottoman Empire" (or something to that effect)?

Weak entry
[edit]I don't mean any offense, but this seems more like a glory story than a real encyclopedia entry. Also, why are there no details about his translation of the Quran? What year was it accomplished? Thanks for your work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.175.109.203 (talk) 12:51, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Pickthall does not claim to have satisfactorily translated the Koran - only attempting to reveal its glory to those who do not have classical Arabic in "an explanatory translation". The British Library has copies of the 1930 edition of The Meaning of the Glorious Koran, published in London and New York by Alfred A. Knopf. It was published in India in 1938. Vernon White . . . Imam of Woking Mosque
[edit]The Times obituary Wednesday 20 May 1936, Page 18 says that he was for several years, Imam of Woking Mosque. When was that? Vernon White . . . Talk 09:38, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Correct date of birth
[edit]This article begins thus:
-
- (Mohammed) Marmaduke Pickthall (7 April 1875 – 19 May 1936) was
But the infobox says he was born in 1876. Which, if either, is correct? Michael Hardy (talk) 21:29, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
Translation?
[edit]I used to own a copy of The Meaning of the Glorious Koran and I'm pretty sure that Pickthall stated that it was not a translation as the Koran was not translatable. Tigerboy1966 09:07, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
