Point Break
[edit]Flea was also in the movie Point Break with Anthony Kiedis as part of the surf gang. Weirdly he doesn't seem to be credited for that role anywhere (not even IMDB) but he's definitely there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.167.15.161 (talk) 07:27, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Seriously... I don't remember seeing him there. I have seen the movie at least a dozen times
209.217.117.234 (talk) 22:32, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
He was definitely in Point Break with Kiedis. 100% not a doubt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.206.58.209 (talk) 11:20, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Yep - 100% it's definitely him. he's in the scene at the beach, and then again at the house that the Kiedis/Flea surf gang live at (when Kiedis gets shot in the foot). From memory I think Flea is the one driving the 4x4 at the start of the house scene. Either way, he's 100% absolutely definitely in that film.
UK SUBS
[edit]Among other things not mentioned in his careers was his memberhood of the UK Subs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.165.197.155 (talk) 03:43, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- It is not mentioned because he never was a member of the UK Subs.--88.72.42.87 (talk) 07:50, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Daughter?
[edit]Why doesn't this article mention his daughter Clara? I think that's a pretty notable thing to just leave out. And I recall seeing mention of her in this article in the past. Why was it removed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by CherryFlavoredAntacid (talk • contribs) 19:10, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Article style
[edit]Need to decide if the article calls him Flea or Balzary... I know he goes by Flea, which is fine, but half the article says "Balzary did this" and the other half says "Flea then did that." — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 05:05, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Malibu Fire
[edit]It's a current event, I know. But from TMZ, Flea owned the house that burned down, but it wasn't his home. I think this section, albeit brief, should be rewritten. The article it's linked to should be corrected by the individual source then the article editing should commence afterwards. Since it's a current event, and as the story unfolds, it's something to watch if anyone wants to properly edit the section with the correct info.Stuckon1111 (talk) 07:30, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Equipment section suggested removal
[edit]Much life the Frusciante article, Flea's equipment section needs to be removed. I've started a talk page discussion so that any one who opposes can voice their opinion, and vice versa. NSR77 TC 03:27, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, removing the equipment will gut the article. It could even drop it to stub class. But it needs to be removed—let's do it. Grim (talk) 03:37, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- No way will this affect the class at all. Stubs are articles with no more than 3 or 4 sentences. This is content-packed! :) I've been bold and removed that section. We need to work on referencing the article, which is a number one priority, considering the article is a biography of a living person. Spebi 04:37, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that was a half-joke—but I'm glad you removed it. Grim (talk) 05:47, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think we should remove the long paragraph describing his equipment and just have the list. Or better yet remove them both and write a paragraph about his playing style. 75pickup (talk · contribs) 00:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- I eventually plan to write a 'Music Style' section much like the one at Frusciante's article. NSR77 TC 22:02, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

References
[edit]I'm starting to compile a list of links out there that could cite a few of the claims in the article. If anyone has a copy of Scar Tissue, it'd be great if they could flick through that and pick up on any details relating to Flea. Spebi 22:19, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- [1]: All Music Guide bio, although it's on VH1's website. There isn't a biography for flea on the All Music Guide website.
- [2]: fansite bio.
- I have a copy of Scar Tissue but I think for Flea's biography I'm going to look through Fornication: The Red Hot Chili Peppers Story again, which is more neutral and far less Kiedis-based. NSR77 TC 23:34, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]- Is there any more referencing information available for ref 1? Done
- In ref 4 AMG should be wlinked. Same with ref 19. Done

- "which he started smoking on a daily basis." - at what age, approximately? {done}}
- "The band hired Michael Beinhorn to produce their next album, who was the band's last resort among potential producers" - Perhaps reword to "The band hired MB, their last resort among potential producers, to work on their next album." Done
- "The band, was attracting over three thousand people per show" - is the comma needed? Done
- "1990-1998: Mainstream success and side projects" section - you might wanna say who (in the image) is Flea. Sad that I don't know, isn't it :P Done
- "spending a large portion of his time with Frusciante smoking large quantities of marijuana" - first part of the sentence talks about the band as a whole, 2nd part just about Flea...clarify Done

Australian
[edit]I've changed the article to say that Flea is Australian. He was born in Melbourne to an Australian parent(one was American). -unsigned
- One is enough under US law. I was born in Japan... doesn't make me Japanese. Flea identifies as an American, though I don't have a cite for it.
- I've also changed this as Flea's parents determine his nationality. If he has renounced being Australian, a citation needs to be provided; otherwise, the information in the article currently determines he is both. I've undone the revert that was made without cause given. 121.208.180.8 (talk) 02:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- It seems to have reverted to "American" only, with an invisible comment suggesting Flea's nationality is being discussed. I agree with the commentary above that citations need to be provided proving that he a) identifies as an American only, and b) has renounced his Australian citizenship.
- Australia's Home Affairs Office information suggests that there should be little question that Flea is Australian by birth. He was born in Australia to an Australian parent. It does not matter what nationality the other parent is/was. 2001:8003:3E50:FF01:D8D9:D46A:CFE5:5FF9 (talk) 03:19, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
Musical Style
[edit]Just cleaned up the grammar a bit in the musical style section - hope you do not mind
Also the picture is of him playing one of his Modulus Flea Bass's, not a J-Bass - hence the edit
ALSO, the entire article is more of a RHCP round-up than Flea's biography. It misses out heaps of information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.133.159.16 (talk) 22:44, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Drawing influences from funk and punk rock, Flea centers his bass playing on simplicity and minimalism, viewing complexity as a device that should be used in moderation. -- can you name a bass player that that DOESN'T apply to? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.103.25.233 (talk) 02:15, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, since I can think of many who struggle to spell complexity, never mind produce it on bass, in moderation or otherwise. I think the point about Flea is that since he can be virtuoso, he has to above all remain at the service of the song. He makes comments to this effect on the Funky Monks DVD (which details the making of Blood Sugar Sex Magik). 86.44.19.24 (talk) 08:28, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah a bass player it doesn't apply to is flea, whoever put that is an idiot.
Equipment
[edit]ok, its only a small refernce, but I thought that on stage he normally uses the Modulus bass, although I have seen him using a J-Bass as well - should we acknowledge the fact of Modulus too? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.140.96.22 (talk) 13:27, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'll add a few other basses he plays once I can find the appropriate sources. NSR77 TC 01:01, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok guys, so what's up with the equipment section? I hope you don't include basses only, but also all the various effects (for example he's been through several auto-wahs throughout his career), amps, cabinets, particular bass-guitar parts, cables, picks... :) 93.74.22.238 (talk) 11:34, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Rick Rubin What?
[edit]Rick Rubin never reject to produce Mother's Milk, but reject produce The RHCP when they were about to record The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.180.66.137 (talk) 17:59, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- The sources listed say otherwise. NSR77 TC 17:10, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Discography
[edit]How about a discography based on Flea rather than just the Red Hot Chilli Peppers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.73.48.117 (talk) 04:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
River Phoenix
[edit]Weren't he and Flea very good friends? If I remember correctly he was very broken up when Phoenix died. I think this should be included. Booharv (talk) 08:54, 27 July 2008 (UTC) ---
I think Flea was out with him the night he died in front of the Viper Room. I'll do some looking. River was definately friends with the whole band. ---
I added details about the relationship with Phoenix, fleas work on 'master sessions' and Phoenix's death. also added references. all was deleted. someone else should try again. it should be included, particularly since Phoenix is given a nod in two chili's songs, Flea hails Phoenix as one of his closest friends and, was present when he died. 22 January 2009
Appearance in Chrono Trigger
[edit]I just checked out this article because it was featured. How has nobody mentioned that a character in Chrono Trigger was named after Flea!? Christiangoth (talk) 02:51, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Because it would be entirely tangential to the subject of this article. That's mentioned in the Chrono Trigger characters article, where it belongs. 86.44.19.24 (talk) 08:15, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- (Characters of Chrono Trigger#Main antagonists, for those who wonder. Blame Ted Woolsey.) --an odd name 08:33, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that I agree it would be tangential. It's a reference in popular culture. It's rather unique for a character in any work of fiction to be named after a person, so I think it's worthy of mention when it occurs. Christiangoth (talk) 12:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Images?
[edit]Great article. I was puzzled that it could get away as FA with three non-free images. Well, maybe things has just become tougher at the FAC process now. Great work. Cheers.--HJensen, talk 10:13, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Good luck getting a picture of Cobain with Flea. Some non-free images just can't be replaced, and yet they do add something to the article. CloudNine (talk) 23:25, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Flea performing at Slane Castle 2003??
[edit]Doubt it, I was at that Gig and this picture was not taken then. Judging by the original link this was taken at one of the V2003 gigs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.167.213.128 (talk) 12:12, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
This sentence seems a bit accusatory, (I believe that is a word.)
[edit]I do believe the mentioning of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' drug use may invoke a sentence or two, but the placement of the drugs mention here:
Flea, Slovak, and Kiedis became best friends, and often partook in the recreational use of LSD, heroin, cocaine, and speed.[10]
seems a bit too accusing. What I mean is instead of placing it in a place that makes them sound like thugs, write it in as more of a disgrace; and if they had come off these drugs, write it in so its placement solely (not writing structure) makes it seem like a come around of some sort. This seems a bit confusing but if someone understand and agrees, kewl. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.94.167 (talk) 05:17, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Are Flea and Frankie Rayder married? 86.29.226.153 (talk) 17:40, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the extent of their relationship is fiancee. When they are planning on getting married, however, I do not know. NSR77 TC 18:02, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just read on a few sites they were married - one said in 2005. 86.29.228.1 (talk) 20:58, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
How come the info about Flea joining the reunion tour of Brittish rock band Faces keeps getting removed? It's confirmed info by Flea himself on the Peppers website. There is a whole thing on him joining Jane's Addiction so why not this band? This info is also on the Faces wiki page along with the Peppers page but for some reason is being removed from Flea's page. Jason1978 (talk) 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- It isn't that the information is wrong it simply is nothing but news at the moment. Wikipedia is not a news source. When we can confirm that he plays with them at a concert or something of the sort then it will be more appropriate to include this. NSR77 T 00:04, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
So what about Anthony possibly having a HBO show based on his life? It is in the works but that is still news and posted on his page. Flea hasn't toured with the Faces yet but has been confirmed by the band themself and www.redhotchilipeppers.com as being part of the reunited band. Jason1978 (talk) 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- The article on Anthony is not featured; this one is, so therefore a lot more restriction has to be placed and information has to not only be pertinent but maintain a stylistic consistency with the rest of the prose. NSR77 T 23:34, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Guest Apearance/Member-The Mars Volta
[edit]Flea was the bassest on De-Loused in the Comatorium except on "Televators" and he played the trumpet numerous times on Frances the Mute. So I think it is noteworthy to add that somewhere in the article, not just one little side note on the first paragraph only mentioning that he performed with The Mars Volta —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.153.216 (talk) 03:44, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok is anyone going to edit this page? I would myself but I don't know how to do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.151.198 (talk) 02:16, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- It'll need some sources to back that information before it can be added. Can you provide those, articles, weblinks etc.? Mfield (Oi!) 02:18, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Needs cleanup
[edit]This page badly needs to be cleaned up. It's written in a very bias manner. The discography is incomplete.
An example of bias However, this technique caused Flea to receive attention from the music world and was often copied,. It goes on and on. Wiggl3sLimited (talk) 00:19, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
There are also several grammatical errors. A lot has always been two words. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Turrtle10 (talk • contribs) 06:58, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
There are tons of grammatical errors and really poorly written sentences in this entry. I've fixed a few but the whole page needs a thorough edit. i'll try to fix what I can, but I unfortunately don't have a lot of extra time. Neilio —Preceding undated comment added 02:19, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Personal Life
[edit]I think there should be a Personal Life section. It's on all of the other things.
Musical Influences
[edit]The final sentence of this section, "During Stadium Arcadium he experienced another shift in interest. Instead of the melodic music he had listened to during the two previous albums, he enjoyed the work of "flashy" guitar players like Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Jimmy Page, exclusively", seems to apply to John Frusciante rather than Flea. Also the source it links to, is an interview with John where he talks about his influences. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.118.116.175 (talk) 17:53, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- That is true, but obviously no-one dares to remove this sentence.--88.72.42.87 (talk) 07:51, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Several issues found on page, no longer meets FA criteria
[edit]This page no longer meets much of the FA criteria, especially 1c and 2b.
- First off, YouTube is not a reliable source in this instance...eman17 is not a company or anything seriously relating to Flea.
- I have had to place several [citation needed] templates due to lack of sourcing.
- Many sections lack prose quality, specifically "Chili Peppers hiatus, return to school, I'm with You and Helen Burns (2008–2012)" and "Effects" should be integrated to include more prose, rather than pretty much just a list.
- Lead does not conform to WP:LEAD
If these issues are not addressed within a week, I will nominate the article at WP:FAR. CrowzRSA 02:57, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Australian born American? Australian-American? Australian? Or American?
[edit]Going with Australian born American for now since he was mostly raised in the US — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:144:C080:95D0:8456:973F:D0E3:DA0B (talk) 11:17, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
- Per MOS:CONTEXTBIO and WP:ETHNICITY, it seems like just "American" is best suited for this article. No hyphenated terms. The subject moved to the U.S as a child and began his career in California as part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His primary residence appears to be in the United States, California in particular if it's worth mentioning.[3][4]
- The opening section already covers his birth place in Australia so there's no need for "Australian-born" either. Discussion down below seems to agree that he is more "American" hence the use of MDY format instead of the expected DMY for Australian-related articles as well. The specification as musician
[edit]Considering (A) the fact nobody else calls themselves Flea & (B) since he uses the capital F, I don't think we need to have musician in parenthesis.--2601:5C0:4280:3D40:A9D9:CF07:6273:46D2 (talk) 23:11, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
ddmmyy dates?
[edit]Why? He's lived in the US since age 5, so this article should use mmddyy dates. Heepman1997 (talk) 11:33, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- I was just thinking the same thing. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:04, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
