I'm not sure, but shouldn't this be titled Backi Petrovac per the official name? --Joy [shallot] 13:08, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

No

In Slovak it's Petrovec (without 'Báčsky') - in Serbian it's Bački Petrovac.

Official name

[edit]

Majority of inhabitants are Slovaks. Slovak is one of official languages in Vojvodina. So it should be Petrovec.

"Disambiguation" discussion at Talk: Petrovec (continued here)

[edit]

The disambiguation is necesary, the name Petrovec is used by Slovakians who consist the majority, as far as i know it's official and widely used. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zakronian (talkcontribs) 19:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This disambiguation page is completely unnecessary because the name Petrovec is only used in the village and municipality of Petrovec. The one in Serbia is spelled Petrovac, and there is already a Petrovac disambiguation page. But since the Slovakians spell it as Petrovec, then a dablink should be put at the top of the page. --The Last King of Brush Park 21:41, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Slovakians are the majority and the Slovak language is official in Vojvodina, the name Petrovec is as common as Bački Petrovac, it's not just a different spelling or pronunciation by the locals. Also we are talking about a town with 10 times the population of the Macedonian village. If we are interested in what most wikipedia visitors would want to find by searching for "Petrovec" it surely isn't completely unnecessary. Why should the "Petrovac" disambiguation page have anything to do with this matter ??? --Zakronian (talk) 23:01, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sure, great, terrific, awesome. But what do you think about my idea of a dablink? --The Last King of Brush Park 01:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If we throw out Petrovec Municipality, we could redirect "Petrovec" to "Petrovec, Republic of Macedonia" (or Macedonian village) and add a dablink there. Although leaving the disambiguation page, at least for a while, would be more neutral, since there hasn't been any broader agreement for the important changes so far.--Zakronian (talk) 04:36, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that sounds like a good idea. But I see no reason to leave the disambiguation page for even a little while. --The Last King of Brush Park 15:35, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you do it now i will copy-paste this discussion to Talk:Bački Petrovac so that other editors might add their opinions and decide changes.--Zakronian (talk) 19:28, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
