Legislature of Saskatchewan
[edit]A question has been raised about the "Legislature" field of the infobox. Should it be "Legislature of Saskatchewan" or "Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan"? I have reverted it to "Legislature of Saskatchewan" for the simple reason that that is how the Legislature for Saskatchewan is defined by the Saskatchewan Act, which is part of the Constituion of Canada. Section 12 of the Saskatchewan Act defines the Legislature as follows:
- 12. There shall be a Legislature for the said province consisting of the Lieutenant Governor and one House, to be styled the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan.
In my opinion, Wikipedia needs to be as accurate as possible, and should use the definition of a term which is set out in the Constitution of Canada. The Legislative Assembly is simply one component of the Legislature. It is not the Legislature This isn't a monarchical issue, as the previous editor seemed to suggest, but simply stating what the Constitution provides. --Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 18:18, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- I strongly believe it should link to the page for the legislative assembly, as that is very obviously what people are going to be looking for regarding the legislative chamber. While I understand that it is “technically correct”, it’s very seriously not helpful with regards to providing what people are looking into.
- If we are going to insist on having the “technically correct” approach (which I strongly recommend against), can we at least do it like New Zealand’s page, where they link to the assembly in brackets like;
- Legislature of Saskatchewan
(Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan) JaacTreee (talk) 10:37, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- Do you have a WP:Reliable source for saying that the Legislative Assembly is the Legislature of Saskatchewan? If not, we shouldn't go by personal opinion, because that's breach of Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and Wikipedia:No original research. Maybe people don't understand the distinction between the Legislature and the Legislative Assembly, but the job of Wikipedia is to give the most accurate information possible, not to perpetuate a popular misunderstanding. I think the Constitution of Canada is the most reliable source we have on this point. That's not a "technically correct" approach — that is the constitutional position, as set out in the supreme law of Canada. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 13:13, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
Dispute about Infobox content
[edit]An issue has come up: should the infobox to this article contain the field "government_type", filled in with "Parliamentary constitutional monarchy". Since this issue affects all ten provinces and the three territories, a Request for Comment has been started on the Canadian Wikipedians Notice Board. If you are interested in this issue, please come to the Notice Board and contribute to the discussion. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 01:03, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Religion in Saskatchewan? Is there any?
[edit]Is there anyone with a religion in Saskatchewan? According to this article apparently not as it's not mentioned at all. Bermicourt (talk) 18:30, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
Saskatchewan Flag
[edit]I noticed while I was doing research on the Saskatchewan flag for my own flag redesign that the one shown in Wikipedia is not the official flag. The official flag as seen here [1], and here [2] with the late flag designer Anthony Drake in 2019 showing a more detailed design than the one on Wikipedia, which shows a simplified western red lily with dots instead of the lengthened stigma on the official flag. If this can be changed to the current correct flag that would be lovely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:56A:F403:AD00:BD2A:C5E6:99C2:9756 (talk) 07:13, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I'm not following your concern. Here is the flag which is linked in the infobox on the article page:
- It has lengthened stigma, not dots. It may be that if the browser window is small (eg on a phone), the image details get condensed, but it looks correct to me. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 23:20, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
