- 1889 – The Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad, in Colorado, is sold from receivership to the Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Railway.
- 1940 – The last section of the Berlin–Baghdad railway's mainline linking Istanbul and Baghdad is completed between El Yaroubieh and Baiji.
- 1962 – Canadian National Railway debuts a new paint scheme on its transcontinental passenger train, the Super Continental (map pictured).
- 1966 – The first passenger operations begin at the Illinois Railway Museum using car number 415.
- 1966 – The last excursion train hosted by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and the Illinois Railroad Club takes place with 2-8-2 "Mikado" No. 4960 in charge of pulling it.
