"Literal" definition

- The term is literal — meaning a pit from where material was borrowed, although without an implication of someday returning the material.

Same as a barrow pit?
[edit]I've heard it called a bar pit, borrow pit, bar ditch, or some other combination of things. Does bar ditch only refer to ones created for drainage purposes perhaps? I have no idea, but thought I'd ask. biggins (talk) 20:41, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
